Strides for Africa

Come out to Warner Park to run or walk to the rhythmic sounds of African music in the 2nd annual Strides for Africa, and you will be a part of a unique fundraising experience to change the lives of those half a world away.  The run/walk kicks off the 13th annual Africa Fest 2011.  Africa Fest is an event that provides the diverse ethnic and racial groups of our community an opportunity to unite with the purpose to promote and preserve a greater understanding of African cultures and heritage.

Proceeds from this year’s run/walk event will benefit “A Glimmer of Hope Foundation” based in Austin, Texas which focuses on projects in Ethiopia.  Because this foundation pays all of its operating expenses through an endowment, it is able to offer a unique opportunity to its gracious donors who help some of the poorest people in the world, one that sees every dollar donated get to where it is needed.

Participants will have a unique experience in the breadth that this event will not only have the integration of the African culture, but also its participants will have an opportunity to see the results of the projects they help to fund through YouTube videos and additional campaign recognition well after crossing the finish line.  See the Strides for Africa 2010 tab for video updates on the proceeds from the inaugural event. So come out and enjoy a summer run/walk through Madison’s Warner Park and along beautiful Lake Mendota to make a difference half a world away.
